01What it is

A client portal for your lab, built on the ELN you already run.

The ELabELN Lab Portal is a secure, branded website where your lab's external clients submit sample requisitions and follow their results online. It is an optional add-on application for ELabELN, priced per application, with unlimited users and no per-user fees. Rather than a standalone system that has to be reconciled back into the lab, the portal reads and writes directly to your ELN, so every submission becomes a real sample record the moment your client hits submit.

Because it runs on your own ELabELN, there is nothing to sync and no separate database of record. Clients sign in with one institutional login, see only their own organization's samples, and download reports the instant your lab marks them complete. Your team never leaves the electronic lab notebook they already use every day.

02The problem

Sample intake shouldn't run on email and phone tag.

Without a portal
  • ×Clients email PDFs or call the requisition in
  • ×Staff re-key every requisition by hand
  • ×Status updates happen over the phone
  • ×Results faxed or emailed, with no shared record
With Lab Portal
  • Clients submit online in minutes
  • Requisitions land in ELabELN automatically
  • Live status, no phone tag
  • Results delivered in-portal, fully tracked
03What it does

Everything clients need, nothing they don't.

Submit samples online

Clients complete a requisition built from your ELN template and submit in minutes. Every submission returns a reference to write on the sample.

Real-time tracking

A live list shows each sample moving through your lab's own status set.

Results in the portal

The lab attaches the report in ELabELN and it appears in the client's portal to download. No fax, no email thread.

One institutional login

Clients sign in with the same single sign-on ELabELN uses. Each organization sees only its own samples, enforced on the server.

Less admin, more trust

Fewer status calls, no re-keyed requisitions, and a clean record of every submission and result, without your team ever leaving ELabELN.

04How it works

From client submission to delivered result, in four steps.

1

Your client submits a requisition

A client opens the portal and completes a sample requisition built from your ELN template. On submit, they receive a reference number to label the sample.

2

It lands in ELabELN instantly

The submission appears in ELabELN right away as a new sample, with the client, requested tests, and status already set. Nothing is re-keyed.

3

Your lab records the result

Staff work the sample in ELabELN exactly as they do today, advancing its status and attaching the final report inside the ELN.

4

Your client downloads it

Status and report flow straight back to the portal. The client sees the sample marked complete and downloads the report, with no email thread or phone tag.

05How it fits

Built into ELabELN, not bolted on.

The Lab Portal has no database of its own. Everything a client does becomes normal activity inside your ELabELN, the single source of truth.

ELabELNYour single source of truth: users, forms, samples, results, and audit trail.

06Who it's for

Built for labs that receive samples from others.

Genomics & sequencing cores Take in samples from partner labs and PIs, then return coverage, variants, and QC reports through one portal.
Contract & reference labs Give every client organization a branded intake and results channel without a separate system per account.
Environmental & food testing Let field and facility clients submit samples with chain-of-custody detail online and track turnaround live.
Academic core facilities Serve researchers across departments and outside institutions with self-service submission tied to your ELN.
07Why it matters

A portal on your own ELN does what a generic form cannot.

A generic web form
  • ×Collects data into yet another system
  • ×Someone reconciles it back into the lab
  • ×Separate logins and passwords to manage
  • ×No isolation between client organizations
  • ×Change the form and you wait on a vendor
A portal on your ELN
  • Writes straight into your ELabELN, nothing to sync
  • Your team never leaves the tool they already use
  • One institutional sign-on, no new passwords
  • Every client sees only their own records
  • Edit the ELN template and the portal updates instantly

08Questions, answered

Lab Portal questions.

What is the ELabELN Lab Portal?

Lab Portal is a secure, branded website where your lab's external clients submit samples and track their results online. It is powered by your own ELabELN: every user, form, submission, and result lives in your ELN, and the portal is a thin front door over it. It is an optional add-on application for ELabELN.

How do clients sign in?

Clients use one institutional login through the same identity provider ELabELN uses (single sign-on). There are no separate portal passwords to create or reset. Access is granted deliberately by the lab, so having a login alone never opens the door.

Where does the data live?

In your ELabELN. The portal keeps no separate copy of record; it reads and writes submissions directly in your ELN through a secure server-side connection. There is no second database to keep in sync.

Can each client see only their own samples?

Yes. Every submission is stamped with the submitter's identity and verified on the server for each request, so clients only ever see their own organization's samples and results. Isolation is enforced server-side, never trusted from the browser.

How do clients get their results?

When the lab finishes a sample, staff attach the result report inside ELabELN and set the status to complete. The report and status appear in the client's portal, ready to download, with no fax or email needed.

Can we customize the submission form?

Yes, and without a software update. The form is generated from a template inside your ELN, so the lab edits what it collects and the portal follows instantly. Different teams can run different forms.

Can the Lab Portal be deployed on-premises?

Yes. Like ELabELN, it can run in a dedicated cloud instance or on-premises to meet your data-residency and infrastructure requirements.

Is the Lab Portal designed to support 21 CFR Part 11?

Compliance is achieved by the lab through its quality system; the software provides supporting controls. Because submissions and results live in ELabELN, they inherit its audit trail and electronic-record controls. Validation services and a Part 11 feature-to-requirement mapping are available on request.
